Bank of Africa Uganda began operating in 1984 as Sembule Investment Bank before being bought by Banque Belgolaise and the Netherlands Development Finance Company in 1996 and renamed Allied Bank. Banque Belgolaise sold its stake to Bank of Africa Group in December 2006, renaming it Bank of Africa - Uganda, and Morocco's BMCE Bank became its ultimate parent after acquiring a controlling stake in Bank of Africa Group in 2010.
